When did we become a society where everyone lies about their lives to get attention. Whatever happened to self respect? Whatever happened to working hard to be a good person and earning your way the honest way. Im tired of hearing people say they are broke or homeless when youre wearing better clothes than the average working person can afford and youre wearing jewelry that would cost most of us six months salary. It makes me sick to think that people expect sympathy and handouts yet you drive a $30000 car and youre always getting your hair done and your nails done and then you leave the salon to go trade state assistance for cash. Posers writing songs about how they overcame poverty and the streets when you went to private schools. Oh you cant afford your child support but you sure can go out drinking and getting high. Well you got my attention but guess what I have no respect for you. Some of us work multiple jobs and still can barely make ends meet and some of us are stepping up and raising other peoples children. We arent out begging for change or abusing state assistance or stealing or selling dope. We arent taking advantage of the kindness of hard working people. We have self respect and respect for others and pride. No we dont live the high life but we get by. We drive beat up affordable cars and live in trailers. We use coupons not food stamps. We have Walmart clothes and $10 hair cuts. Our nails are broken and dirty from our jobs. We can look ourselves in the mirror and say we earned what we have although it may not be much. I dont need to write a song full of lies about my struggles or to get peoples sympathy. Respect yourself and others and work for what is yours. If you do this pride will fill your heart and soon you will rewrite your story and it will then be about the blessings in your life.
