When he was severely injured in his last start, Thorn Song was not - TopicsExpress

When he was severely injured in his last start, Thorn Song was not expected to live. He suffered a partially ruptured deep digital flexor tendon and severe infections that included multiple abscesses. Then he developed laminitis. It seemed all hope was lost for the beautiful grey, but the Zayats were willing to take one more shot: stem cell therapy. His vet thought Thorn Songs chances of surviving the treatment were less than 10%. But 48 hours later, the pain and swelling had plummeted. Within two weeks, hoof growth was underway. A year and a half later, Thorn Song was fully recovered. He entered stud in 2011 at Harris Farms. Thorn Song won eight of 29 starts, including the 2008 Shadwell Turf Mile Stakes (gr. IT) and 2009 Shoemaker Mile Stakes (gr. IT), and earned $1,132,700. The stallion was a son of Unbridleds Song and a great grandson of Secretariat. He carried the blood of Dr Fager, Native Dancer, Northern Dancer, Man O War, Bull Lea, and many other greats. Thorn Song passed away today due to severe complications from laminitis. His first crops are just now beginning to race, his legacy carried on by them. Rest in peace, Thorn Song.
