When i was in Milwaukee this weekend my friend Paul Cebar told me about a used bookstore at the airport. Now this was a first! While i was there, i picked up a biography of my favorite gospel group The Dixie Hummingbirds. When i was around 18 years old i saw them perform and met their guitarist Howard Carroll. He was extremely kind to me and ive never forgotten our conversation about music. There is no other guitarist more influential on my style of playing when i perform my solo shows. I wanted to mention him because most people dont know about Howard outside of the gospel world. This is the same line up i saw perform when they brought down the house in Rochester. Still one of the most exciting shows ive ever seen. They tore it up! At the 8 minute mark they let Howard take over, but his playing is incredible the entire time.
