When is the next Presidential Election in Sierra - TopicsExpress

When is the next Presidential Election in Sierra Leone? Firstly, let get it clear, according to the 1991 Constitution, President Ernest Bai Koroma will not be a Presidential candidate for this election. See relevant section of the constitution below: 46. (1) No person shall hold office as President for more than two terms of five years each whether or not the terms are consecutive. When does the President second term ends? His Excellency Dr Ernest Bai Koroma was sworn in as president of the Republic of Sierra Leone, on 23rd November, 2012. So the President second term will end on 23rd November, 2017. Therefore, according to the 1991 Constitution, the next Presidential Elections must be held within three months of this date. See relevant section of this constitution: 43. A Presidential election shall take place.... a. where the office of President is to become vacant by effluxion of time and the President continues in office after the beginning of the period of four months ending with the date when his term of office would expire by exfluxion of time, during the first three months of that period; b. in any other case, during the period of three months beginning with the date when the office of President becomes vacant. Now, my question is who determines the exact date for the election within that three month period? Is this date open to manipulations? Is this something the Constitutional review Panel should look at? Not for this coming election but succeeding elections. What is your take? Firstly is my analysis correct? Secondly, what do you think about my questions?
