When it rains, it pours. One night earlier this week, our heat went out upstairs. Temps in the low 30s, so BRR. Repairman came early the next day, promptly found the problem. Fortunately it was a minor problem easily fixed. The following night, our downstairs unit went out. Called repairman back, he could not find a problem with our unit. What he did find however, was the powerline at the pole connecting to our house had one of two leads burned completely in two pieces, but still connected. So there was very limited power, (9 amps) getting into the house. Lights were browning out, TV not working, Fridge warming up. I put in a problem report with the power company, Entergy and they had the problem repaired by 4pm same day. I thought all was well. Silly me....The week prior, Entergy, had tree triming crews working on our street. Boy, they left a huge mess of things. Trees look like they have just been wacked off and debris all over the sidewalk and street. Not to mention the stuff cut, but still hanging in mid-air. Evidently, the tree trimming crew had damaged the powerline and either not noticed or didnt care. Nonetheless, the impact of the burned out line caused spikes and FRIED my new GE fridge. It was not evident for a day or two because the power had been restored, but the circuit board, compressor and something else was totally fried. As soon as the appliance repairman pulled out the unit from the wall, he could smell the burned out parts. Had to unload everything from the fridge/freezer and haul it to another location so as not to lose it. My freezer was full too. ARGH. The appliance guy said it was definitely caused by the power line issue. He had just seen the same thing happen in another neighborhood in town. I am going to call Entergy and tell them what happened and provide them the service call letter stating what happened. Do you think they will replace my fridge? Hmm....dont think Ill hold my breath. ARGH I think I am going for so me serious therapy at the Wine House tonight. lol
