When my car CD player went kaput several years ago (and thats a direct quote; being a Blaupunkt, its final words were Ich bin kaput!), I fortunately was too busy to get it fixed before I realized how much I enjoyed the silence. Sometimes during my commute now, I ponder work or philosophical questions (this morning, for example, I pondered whether, if dogs had gills, they would eat fish flakes); other times allow freedom for songs I would never deliberately choose to bubble up through the miasma of my aged mind. Perhaps in a defensive stance against the insipid Christmas music plaguing stores during this season, what percolated up the other day was King Creoles Annie. I have found it is the perfect anecdote to the season (the Caribbean rhythm helps, too). A few key lines, and then a Youtube link, for your judicious prophylactic usage to tide you over during these tidings of great saccharine music: They say that all is fair in love and war, and child believe it; When mama stayed in Saint Tropez, she had a ball - or two. They say that out of sight is out of mind, and child believe it; Your mama was in search of love, but all she got was you. They say that bliss is made of ignorance, and child believe it; Had mama left and not confessed, perhaps Id love you too. Oh Annie, Im not your daddy! See, if I was in your blood, then you wouldnt be so ugly. https://youtube/watch?v=fLf6MIdE1BE
