When people offend me, mostly, I just suck it up and let it roll off my back. I don’t usually invest a lot of emotional energy in that stuff. Here’s the thing about being offended. It’s only a problem if you allow it to sit and fester and bloat like a dead deer on the side of the road. 3 Tips For The Easily Offended EXTEND GRACE -Extend the benefit of the doubt. Was this an intentional effort to slight you? Really? Or were they just expressing a viewpoint, sharing a story, you don’t agree with or think is appropriate? Is an experience from your past blowing up that casual remark into something that wasn’t intended? PRACTICE PATIENCE - Some people are still learning social graces, some people are blurters, sometimes people laugh at inappropriate times or tell jokes that fail. Honestly assess whether bringing up your opinion of that comment will help that person or grow your relationship with them. LET IT GO - If seeking a sincere verbal apology will strengthen a relationship then you should pursue it. If that apology is just to seek attention, to make you feel better about yourself, make someone feel bad about themselves, or won’t restore a single stick in the bridge required to fix the relationship — what’s the point? You’re just spreading the gangrene around.
