When people think for themselves, then controversy is inevitable and should be welcomed, as long as the participants in the debate are polite and listen to each other, and share the common intent to uncover the truth. Many people, both young and old, are so involved in rejecting false dogmas that they become more engaged in rejecting falsities than in uncovering the truth. Carl Sagan is an example of this, as well as many youth, who have rejected most of human culture and instead believe that they can go it alone, which is impossible. Every aspect of human culture is rich with essential insights which must be mined by the seeker after truth if they are to make any significant inroads into the many perplexing problems of existence.
