When someone say they taught themselves how dance in a particular style, this is somewhat true, seeing that they didnt learn it physically in person from someone, but they did in fact had to have seen it somewhere to try and teach themselves, all that means you learned of it and copied what you thought was the right way of doing that style, and by no means does that indicate you created a new style. so being self taught is just a indirect way of learning from someone, whither its on tv or in a club, but if you create a whole different dance style and you called it something else, then thats called self creation an you are the creator of that new style.
