When someone shares a mistake they made or a setback of some kind, - TopicsExpress

When someone shares a mistake they made or a setback of some kind, one of the absolutely least helpful responses is, I told you so! Why dont you ever listen to me? This is not the time to make yourself right and them wrong. What does this achieve anyway? It takes courage and vulnerability to share a disappointment or mistake. It is even more embarrassing when they had been warned about it before. So just listen, empathize and reassure them. Focus on what can be done now instead of rubbing the mistake in. This is the wise approach and they will appreciate you for it. If you let them keep their self respect in this way, chances are that they will be more mindful in the future.
