When the Bible is just plain crazy We have to have the freedom and the honesty to say that some places in the Bible are just plain crazy. Today in our Tuesday Bible Class we are looking at the story of the sons of Noah. Noah is lying drunk and naked in his tent. When one of his sons discovers his nakedness, it is the son rather than Noah who receives a curse. The story is a good way to begin a conversation on shame and how often it is the victim who gets blamed. But to take the story at face value would yield monstrous results. To love the Bible, and not some idealized version of it, we must see where it is good, where it is not so good, and where it is just plain crazy. The Bible is a wonderful lamp for our feet, but only if we realize it is the first word in the conversation, not the last.
