When the Germans invaded Yugoslavia they took control of the radio - TopicsExpress

When the Germans invaded Yugoslavia they took control of the radio station in Belgrade. A lieutenant was sent out to collect records so they could be played on air for the German soldiers. One of the records was a song called Lili Marlene by Lale Anderson. Its about a soldier that regularly meets up with a woman named Lili Marlene outside the barracks gate under the light post. The soldiers liked the song so much that it was played everyday. Propaganda minister Goebbels didnt like the song so he had the station stop playing it. The station got so many letters asking for it to be played that they played it again anyways. Even the allied soldiers liked the song and would tune in.
