When the foundational desire for both husband and wife is to please God in all that they do, they will not see each other as enemies. Instead they will recognize their responsibility to pray for each other, encourage each other and strengthen each other, not just find fault with each other. When you are preoccupied with the desire is to be right with God, you have no time to worry about what’s wrong with others. When you understand your own sinfulness and unworthiness towards God, you’ll empathize with those that sin against you and are unworthy of your forgiveness. When you understand that God loves you and died for you regardless of your countless imperfections, you wont find it hard to selflessly love your imperfect spouse. Jesus commands, “Love each other as I have loved you.” John 15:12. This is how Jesus loved, “While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8. Do you love your spouse as Christ loved you?
