When traveling on business, there were opportunities beyond - TopicsExpress

When traveling on business, there were opportunities beyond expectations that I know were presented for a reasons. Seeing the beauty of this earth and meeting the people in it were the biggest blessings of all. Each one of them presented me with sights and experiences that will be with me, not only in my mind, but also in my heart. As much travel that was done, the number one priority was to make sure that my absence at home was minimally felt and my presence maximally capitalized. It would have been a real financial burden to bring home a gift from everywhere traveled, but there was always a little something to pick up. The boys received a pen from the places visited and my daughter a spoon. It was fun to see the numbers grow. The biggest gift anyone could ask for was the hug after walking through the door upon my return. No matter whether the trip was two days or two weeks, the biggest joy was opening my suitcase that first evening and find a piece of art or note from each of the kids. They held a place of honor, taped to the mirror in my hotel room and remain until the morning of checkout. If many locations were involved, they would always follow me. There were many comments from housekeeping on how talented they were. It kept home with me. Being a sentimental pack rat, there is a file with every one of the pictures given along with the craft projects from Father’s Days past. The grandchildren would enjoy seeing these. They ranged from pottery projects to alphabet soup pasted on rocks. They are priceless, give me great warmth, and love whenever I look at them. The emotion of business travel is either one of determination. “I am going to do this, be successful, and get home.” It can be one of resign. “This is something I have to do. Let’s do it and be done.” It could be one of intrigue. “It is a part of my job. I am going to make the most of the time I have, see as much as I can and meet as many people along the way.” I usually bent to the later. There are times I wonder what things would have been like if there were not as much time spent in airports, hotels, airplanes, conference rooms, etc. Then again, I probably would not be who I am today, and I kind of like this guy. Enjoy this beautiful weekend, if you live in New England; and if you don’t, take what is given and make the most of it. It will only happen once.
