When we are successful, our family is successful, our church is successful, our friends are successful, our Town is successful and it is with that that Makea, Trina, Kairangi, Susie and I wish to leave our heartfelt thanks with you all. When we received our nomination in August we planned to make the weekend one to truly remember. Since Friday we have been staying at the Jet Park Airport Hotel. It is a beautiful hotel! Our families and parents have loved it here, the pool, the restaurant, the in-house mini bar lol (purely for the snacks of course), the valet parking (the best azzz!), the king sized beds, jercuzzis and wonderful staff. The Rage was toooooo good!! Packed as, wonderful talent and a great night of Cook Islands entertainment! On Saturday once our tere party had put on their Number 1s, we travelled by Limo Bus to the Music Awards. Good ol pumping music from our favourite era the 90s bellowed out of the party bus speakers as we nibbled on snacks and the Mamas danced as if they were in the niteclub lol The Awards evening was great. You mix and mingled with some of your favourite Cook Islands and NZ artists and everyone looked mean, really dressed up to the 9s! It was unfortunate that we and our families didnt get our correct tables but nevertheless, the positiveness of the evening surely outweighed this. Our little town of Tokoroa did superbly at the awards and these were the nominations received: Advocates to Cook Islands Music: Rev. Timote Turu, Patty Pirato and Teupoko Natua Best Cook Islands Recording Producer: Bob Tiaki, Isamaela Heather Best Cook Islands Musician: Isamaela Heather Best Cook Islands Stringband: Tiaki Strings Best Cook Islands Singing Group: Timberland Soulz Best Cook Islands Contemporary Band: Timberland Soulz Best Cook Islands Female Artist: Susie Monga Best Cook Islands Male Artist: Aaron Mutua I want to also acknowledge our family who received awards: our Uncle Tika and cuzzies for Tika and Sons and Aitutaki 4, the Late Uncle Tauraa Upu, who is one of my favourite composers, our late Papa Akaperepere Punoua-Raki who was inducted into the Cook Islands Hall of Fame. For us it was an honour being acknowledged alongside the very artists we listened to, sang to on the cassettes and videos. Standing wuth them and having our names read alongside theirs was an awesome moment. The likes of Tina Koronui, Katu, Sunset Special, Tyson, Chuck, Brother Love, Jon Jonassen, Aunty Mabel, Ephraim, Tara Kauvai ...far out man chehooooooooo We wish to thank the Tangi Reka Arts and Culture Trust and event organisers of the Tangi Reka Cook Islands Music Awards for a job well done, you organised an excellent evening, an exvellent weekend in fact! May your vision in continuing to grow and showcase Cook Islands music strive forward in prosperity. Te Atua te aroa. We wish to thank our ekalesia, St. Lukes PIC because in all respect, we started here in our Sunday School singing for Uapou Fellowship, the Tatau, Pure Ebedoma, Pure Ngutuare, Famiy services. Thank you to our Youth Leaders, who at most times we were scared of hahaha when they talked, we listened! They who always pushed us to learn our Cook Islands Maori language and culture through learning about God and his eternal love. Aunty Akarere Henry, the Late wonderful Taria Kingston, Aunty Iuni Stowers, Teokotai Chookz Tarai, Aunty Monz Tiaki, we understand now even more and really do appreciate what you have given us. Thank you for teaching us what you know and for encouraging our creativeness in singing, performing and composing. To our Papa Orometuas Rev William and Mii Cuthers and Rev Timote and the Late Mata Turu who we just love and have the highest respect for. Kia Orana i roto ite Atu. Our friends, especially our gang, who continue to always support us, too much man! Thank you all. Aunty Ngametua Anthony, she who believed in our talent as teenagers and took us into our first competition to which we came 2nd to Coconut Rock, thank you Aunty, one of our biggest supporters. To the recording producers, musicians, production teams who gave of their time to put our music out there in the Cook Islands market: Unkl Bob Tiaki, bro Isamaela Heather, Unkl Puni Iorangi, bro Varo Iorangi, Papa Noo Pare, bro Jerome Pare, brothers Henry and Manuel Tupou, the muscians who played for us here in NZ and on tour: 2Pouz Fynist, Tiaki Strings, Tapunui Motions, Unkl Paul Pavou Dean, Zephania Tupou, thank you all very much...we have some mmmmmmean stories man .hahahaha. To our families who always opened their homes here in NZ, Australia, Tahiti, Hawaii and the Cook Islands. Thank you for your generosity towards us and inviting us to stay with you whether we are recording or gigging. Our manager Patty Pirato, thank you for everything you do for us Patty, we are so proud that your behind-the-scenes efforts was recognised. Heres to more memories Patty! 3 dares for Tahaa hip hip bwahaha To our supportive, huge families. Our recognition this weekend belongs to you also. Thank you for always being there behind us. Lastly we wish to thank our parents, they who have been our greatest teachers because it all starts in the home. My mum spoke on behalf of all our parents and used the parable of the three servants as it was the Tia for the day. She likened us to the first servant, we who chose to use our talent and do good things with it and just like the first servant, we have gone back to our Parents with more. Thank you for getting in behind us, for the sacrifices you make, for the quiet or at most times yelling at us, but most of all teaching us to be good God fearing people. Thank you Papa Ma and Mama K, Mama Noo and Papa Pita, Jack and Poko Ngatamariki, Ina and Pe Teaurima, Nani, Dawa and Tukumate and Uncle. Because if your teaching we have shown that you dont have to be born in the Cook Islands to be a great Cook Islands singer! Tokoroa, we are coming home with our Lady Penrhyns bwahahahaha (our name for our Statuettes!).
