When will the films start? Many people are asking when the Regal - TopicsExpress

When will the films start? Many people are asking when the Regal will reopen? The seats were completed today - and don’t they look inviting? One year to the day since we got the keys to the building and it looks as though we are almost ready for our first audience. However there are a number of things that need to be addressed before we invite you all in. 1. We are planning to reline the walls with a luscious gold fabric. The material arrived today; we just need to schedule a suitable time when our generous and talented upholsterer Phillip McGrath and I can get together to do the job. 2. We need to finish painting the foyer. 3. The kitchen and supper room need painting - although this needn’t delay an opening 4. We need to replace a set of steps from the supper room to the stage. When this work is complete we may well be in a position to open the doors. However there are two very significant issues that need to be addressed before we can screen films. Firstly we need to purchase and install digital projection equipment and upgrade the existing sound system. We have done our research and have a very reasonable quote from local supplier and installer Barry Parsons from Associated Sound. What we need to do before we can give Barry the go ahead is some fundraising so we can pay for it. The NSW Govt funding we have been given for the renovations has been stretched much further than originally anticipated due largely to the generosity of our volunteers, local trades people and suppliers. In fact we have enough in reserve to cover most of the cost of the new equipment. There is however a shortfall. We have a number of fundraising strategies that will be rolled out soon. Stay tuned for updates on how you can help support. Secondly, before we open we want to make sure that we have someone suitable to operate the Regal. There has been some interest but at this stage no one has been confirmed. We would like to hear from anyone who might be interested in taking on this important role. After all there is little point in having an opening if there is no-one to program and screen films. And who knows, there may well be someone in Newcastle with a burning passion to run an art-house and alternative cinema – this could be the moment you have been waiting for! Let us know.
