When you offend a large group of people probably the best approach is to offer a simple apology rather that giving a qualified one and then going on to make further accusations that seem to cloud the issue. Paula Deens example should be a guide of not what to do in this case... Your article tapped into a hornets nest of pain and rejection that many older gay men feel and you seem to have no sensitivity or remorse for this. Remember this generation has been through some pretty rough stuff so there is still a lot of trauma at work here. Plenty of people tried to educate you without resorting to name calling or crude terms and your response doesnt address those many peoples concern that your representative of a larger culture that views older gay men as invisible and best forgotten. Finally I have to say this focus on parenting seems strange many of us who chose not to parent; but to add to the culture and the future in other ways such as art or teaching or self exploration, invoking children as a way to prop up a faulty argument seems like exploitation rather than true concern for the very young.
