When you practice tactical hemorrhage control, are you creating a realistic training environment, or are you cheating yourself and your students? Next time you are practicing life-threatening hemorrhage control, cut a straw in half. Place that straw in your mouth. Now do 15 burpees or 50 push-ups. Once your heart rate is up and you cant breathe, try and stop simulated severe bleeding. Can you do it? Notice that your fine motor skills are gone and your ability to concentrate is overwhelmed with your need to breath and control your own panic. Dont think this is realistic? Ask anyone who has been in a gunfight how they felt. Dont cheat yourself during training. Death certainly wont let you cheat. Make sure that you train like you fight and fight like you train.
