When you see someone doing something wrong, abetting something - TopicsExpress

When you see someone doing something wrong, abetting something wrong or turning a blind eye to the wrong, react and make a difference. I know a lot of you ask yourself the question that if something or someone doesnt affect you, why purge? Why dirty your own hands? Why enter into a debate or an argument? Well, it is important to intervene and prevent the wrong even if it doesnt affect you, because thats how a society ought to function. Every society has a fair share of bad eggs which, if not crushed, ca hatch into monsters who can devastate the very fabric of the society you inhabit. Which does not mean that you need to indulge in fruitless criticism of the bad eggs, even if the criticism is well directed and well deserved. When I see a wrongly parked car, I raise enough hue and cry to force the owner to accept his mistake and make immediate amends. But this is just a drop in the ocean. A few educated people, online and offline, tend to demean women and objectify them in the worst of ways. Whats your stand against these people? More importantly, are you among these people? When your spinal column ricochets in different directions thanks to the potholed roads, do you crib about it or call the municipality? Do you drive drunk? And whats your stand against your bestie who drinks and drives regularly? Did you accept the hefty dowry your in-laws were forced to cough up? Or did you refuse it and get your greedy relatives booked under the law? Do you abuse people at the drop of a hat? Do you mindlessly make them incestuous lovers of their mothers and sisters? To be true to myself, I admit that in todays day and age, it is perhaps impossible to be a saint. But a little extra effort will go a long way in making you a better person, and the society a better place to live. Perhaps toddlers wont be raped then. Perhaps the corrupt wont be so audacious. Perhaps the society will be proud of itself one day. Perhaps.
