When you think youre too old for something, consider Harriette - TopicsExpress

When you think youre too old for something, consider Harriette Thompson, the 91 y.o. North Carolinian who lives in a retirement home in Charlotte and just garnered a world record in her age class for a FULL marathon. Thats right. 26.2 miles and she never stopped for a break in her 7 hours, seven minutes and 42 seconds. Hot damn!!! Harriette began running the San Diego marathon in 1999 at the tender age of 76, to support a leukemia and lymphoma fundraiser for a friend. 2013 is the only year she didnt run, while being treated for an oral cancer which cost her all but one of her teeth and some of her upper jaw. This year shes receiving radiation for squamous cell cancers on her legs and had to bind her painful open sores with bandages and hose, leaving her running with NO training for the first time. Her 55 y.o. son runs right behind her, to prevent her from being mowed down by speed racers! GO Harriette! I cant say too much about how much this womans fortitude moves me. runnersworld/runners-stories/91-year-old-to-run-sundays-san-diego-marathon This was written just before she ran the 2014 marathon.
