When you use a flat pick, what do you do with your middle, ring, and pinky fingers? Do you curl them into a loose fist, or let them hang free, or something else? And why? (Signed, a humble student.) Edit: Why I am asking: I played for 25 years, and held my hand loose -- open -- when flat picking. Then didnt play for 14. Now Im taking lessons, and my teacher is trying to convince me to form a loose fist. When I do that, I sometimes have a hard time finding the right damned string . . . .
