Whenever something like this is in the news ... it brings back a flood of personally painful, difficult memories for me. My own father was emotionally ill-equipped to be a parent. Although I was aware that he loved us in his own way .... his temper was horrific .... and his idea of discipline was to administer belt lashings as hard and as long as he could possibly muster -- frequently for nonexistent misunderstood offenses. As a result, my legs and backside would be covered in bruises. The physical bruises long-since healed .... but the bruises on my soul never healed -- and never will. Never. All of that -- in combination with being constantly denied most pleasures in life -- left its mark .... and significantly contributed to my less-than-positive view about men and my almost immediate disengagement from any dates who would treat me in a negative or undesirable manner. If one doesnt look out for oneself ..... aint nobody else gonna do it. LEAST of all ... law enforcement or the judicial system. In 2014 .... it has proven very evident that women and children STILL HAVE NO RIGHTS.
