Whenever you feel down and out, like the world around you is crashing down, just remember Omar... After the destruction of his town, Aleppo (حلب), Syria, his family was forced to leave their home and sought refuge in the Turkish town of Kilis. In all of the three years that he has lived, Omar has known nothing but death, destruction, and desperation. Constantly losing family members, and living in conditions that we, on this side of the world, would never be able to withstand... one would think that he and his family would lose hope in life and give up on happiness… Au Contraire! Omar waddles around all day laughing and playing with anyone he sees. The innocence Allah has placed in his heart shines through and onto everything around him. He constantly smiles and effortlessly inspires those who see him to do the same. And with the simple phrase “I love you” - the only english words he knows - he melts the hearts of anyone with even the slightest bit of eemaan and appreciation for Allah’s infinite mercy. May Allah protect Omar and his family, and those who are oppressed all over the world, granting them patience and the best of reward. And may He inspire us all to be like this little boy, who, no matter what Allah tests him and his family with, makes it his goal throughout every day to make others smile. Next time you find yourself letting your stress, troubles, and worries get to your head, and when you see your actions reflecting any sadness in your heart, remember Omar. And remind yourself that Allah’s awareness of your circumstance should be enough for you to feel at ease... وَكَفَىٰ بِاللَّهِ شَهِيدًا and sufficient is Allah as a Witness
