Where did Twilight go so wrong? The movies, at least. I just re-watched the fight scene from Breaking Dawn Part 2 (probably the best part of the series), and yet there are still really goofy things about it. But heres the thing: I remember seriously enjoying the first Twilight book. I mean, really. I was into it, I laughed out loud, I was hooked. Everyone likes a good love story, right? I read 3 of the books and saw 4 of the movies. So here are some things I think the movies did wrong, to earn them this eternal label of goofy lameness: 1) Taking the wit out Edward Cullen. Edward is a very witty, funny (almost to the point of being smug) character on the page, making him a more entertaining person. Robert Pattison played a moony-eyed mope who was obsessed with Kristen Stewart. Need I say more? 2) Kristen Stewart. She can cry on cue, but can she do anything else? That sounds mean, but, attaching a five-movie series primarily to an actress with no charisma and having her play (or just Be) boring as possible was a REALLY BAD IDEA. 3) Turning Jacob into a running gag. Hes a solid character on the page, and Taylor Lautner was decent early in the series...but turning him into just a set of abs was really really stupid. Instead of one of the series most important characters showing up, Oh God, here comes the stupid guy who cant keep his freakin shirt on. 4) Turning a Vampire story into X-Men. This one can read minds! This one can electrocute people! This one can shoot forcefields out of his hands! This one can mentally project a protective forcefield onto people so they cant get hurt! Really, why dont you just reign it in a little bit. 5) Making the entire thing a Magazine photoshoot. Heres the vampire in his slick outfield with his intense, thousand-yard stare! Heres the hot vampire chick with the bright red eyes who doesnt do anything but purse her lips all the time! Heres the vampires awesome, outfitted house in the woods! Heres the guy and the girl just staring at each other because theyre both SO ATTRACTIVE! Heres the guy posing...I know hes supposed to be thinking hard and wracked with emotion, but hes just posing and squinting. Anyone else have any other thoughts? I didnt worship the books or the movies, but something tells me they could have done the movies better.
