Where has Black Friday suddenly appeared from in the UK? We have - TopicsExpress

Where has Black Friday suddenly appeared from in the UK? We have New Year sales which was meant to encourage us to spend after Christmas and clear the shops of winter stock. This somehow transferred to Boxing Day and all the stores joined in. Then the Sales seemed to appear in the run up to Christmas to tempt us out and now they are adopting a tactic which is linked to American Thanksgiving. One store chain does it and every other follows. The news is that as the Sales migrate further down the calendar we will eventually get to New Year and everything can start again. How come we are constantly told how cheaply stores sell things and yet for a few days of the year prices plummet? How about a bit of radical thinking? Why not charge a fair price for a fair item, stop telling us you are the cheapest, some of us want a bit of quality when we can afford it. Treat your suppliers fairly and stop driving the market down to its lowest common denominator. The press is concentrating on the greed and sheer bad manners of the shoppers during the well named Black Friday and I agree, but lets look to the stores too. They are far from blameless.
