Where has the awe and wonder of SF gone? Everything nowadays is - TopicsExpress

Where has the awe and wonder of SF gone? Everything nowadays is either dystopian or post-human/singularity or military. What happend to the wonders of the universe being explored by normal humans little different than people of today? And boy am I sick of nanotech. Its become the magic of SF. Its was great back in the 80s when it was a new idea, but its 30 years later and little has changed. Time to move on. Can anyone recommend a book written in the last 5 years that has normal humans, isnt dystopian, doesnt rely on shooting things for conflict and dosent use nanotech as an excuse to do the impossible? A couple of books Ive read which fit this mold are Mary Doria Russells The Sparrow and Ben Bovas Jupiter. Bring back space adventure (preferably with accurate science) where, to quote Douglass Adam, Men are real men, women are real women, and small furry creatures from Alpha Centauri are real samll furry creatures from Alpha Centauri.
