Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious. But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar person; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; For so is the will of God, that with well doing you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: For even hereunto were you called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes you were healed.
