Whether it is our cuisine, our music or even our dialect it is evident that Culture is to Tourism what Oxygen is to Humans, LIFE! Another part of our culture is our history knowing who we are and from whence we’ve come as proud Bahamians. Friday 25th July 2014 was yet again no exception for the Ministry of Tourism Summer Employees. What started as a “I hope this City Tour don’t be boring” quickly evolved into a “Wow!for true? I didn’t know that experience.” The city tour which commenced in front of the British Colonial Hilton Hotel was in the opinion of many a learning experience. All roads led to Fort Fincastle and the Water Tower, where the summer students were greeted by its staff and taught a valuable lesson about its development, redevelopment and use. The Queen’s Stair Case, commonly referred to as the 66 stairs proved to be another enlightening experience and view for the summer students as well. Its unique history and purposed which was to act as an escape route for the soldiers as mentioned by the well leant tour guide peaked the interest of many. To this end the group could not leave without taking a picture on the stair case that will be cherished for lifelong. Clifford Park and its Forts was the next stop for these summer employees. At this venue the employees were immersed in deeper history and wowed by the fact that three Forts were built in one thus its enormous structure and appearance sparked interest among all. From there, these individuals made their way to the Cable Beach area viewing other historical features, plants, and also receiving a quick glance of the Prime Minister and former Prime Minister Residence also viewing the residence of other prominent people in society. The Bahamas’s multibillion dollar resort Bahamar also got its fair share of viewing and history told. The summer employees wasted no time sharing their own views on a number of historical places that was visited and was in fact put to the test by their tour guide. Not surprisingly they all proved themselves to be very knowledgeable about their country. Special thanks to the tour guide Mr. Lamont Rahming for his immeasurable knowledge that was poured into each person on this journey and we look forward to next timebecause Tourism Is Everybody’s Business!
