The present study demonstrates that it depends on how you use the site, and the nature of the relationship. • Receiving written content—things that take some effort—like comments, posts on a friends Timeline, and messages are linked to improvements in relationships. • Likes, on the other hand, have little to no effect on relationships, possibly because Likes cost less socially.
