Whether youre 5, 7, 9, 16, 18 or 21 years old if a parent is not capable of parenting, theyre simply just not capable of parenting. The older their child gets does not define the efficiency and maturity that a parent just automatically becomes a parent. No matter if you grow out of the waiting outside until midnight because you know, they promised, so you absolutely KNOW theyll be here any minute! phase, youll always have that tinge of hope. I mean, they promised...theyre never supposed to break promises, right? Even if the unpacking of your clothes and putting them back in the dresser drawers didnt already draw you the picture of whats really going on or why the last time you saw them your piggy bank went missing you still ask Why? How? What happened? over and over again. And with all your tears that turned into brick after brick, stacking up over the years, even with that wall as stone cold as the frigid night air attacking your damp face as you wait for their promise to come true, you let it all melt and break down with the I forgive you, mom and the I love you too s... You will always know; There is still that chance that the demon inside them will come crawling back out. There is still that chance that the love for the affection of a drug is a million times more potent, powerful & accepting rather than a little girls arms wrapping around their neck. There is still that chance that the next phone call you ever receive is a collect call & you need to press 1 to accept & it may be monitored & recorded There is still that chance that there might actually, finally, be no call at all. 2 weeks go by.
