Whew! What a day! After a 3 hour diagnostic screening, Alex got his formal, clinical diagnosis for Aspergers Syndrome/ high functioning Autism spectrum disorder. I can not express the amount of relief I have in the outcome of this... It has taken years of watching him struggle, years of mis-diagnosis, years of unsuccessful therapies, years of being treated like The Bad Kid, at daycare, at preschool, and now elementary school. Years of being told that hes just Acting Out, or exhibiting attention seeking behavior, or just being defiant.... I knew there was something bigger going on with him that was being missed and brushed off... I had to do my own research, and all of the foot work myself, until finally I had the backing from his primary care physician to have the actual ASD screening referral sent through. I have known, in my soul that this was what it is. So I am hugely relieved, and thankful. Liam is next to be screened, for early onset mild ASD....
