Wheww, Dave Grohl FINALLY says something stupid. The way it all started for me was we HAD to have a demo in order to GET a gig. That was step one. Without it, no one would book your band. Fast forward to now, it still takes a LOT of money to record an album. Call me old fashioned but to concede in the battle between right and wrong- theft and paying a person for their goods- or in the case of Spotify, a ridiculously low amount- is once again re-drawing the lines of ethics and morals. This is absolutely the wrong answer to just say, oh well, this is the new way, the cats out of the bag, we cant fight FREE, so I guess well just go along with it for fear of being called an asshole. Im really afraid that society has completely lost its moral/ethical compass already. If you come to my shows and you really wanna buy a record but dont have the cash I will gladly give you one. If you dont have the cash to even get in the show, I will let you in. But, artists have every right to stand up for their right to be paid. Of course, all this is easy for Dave to say- after all, hes playing two nights at Wembley next summer.
