While Ahtna ancestors were skilled in crafting copper tools, some exact techniques were lost to history as technology advanced. To preserve their history, Culture Camps across the region are organized by Ahtna communities and funded by by the Ahtna Heritage Foundation. They are also supported by a grant received by Cooper from the National Science Foundation, and he took the opportunity to travel there and teach the Alaskan tribes how to mold copper just as their ancestors did.
