Currently, cars have insufficient memory to store detailed maps of an entire country so BMW is teaming up with local internet giant, Baidu, on a program that downloads maps on the go. BMWs prototype vehicles, which have undergone thousand of kilometers of testings in Germany, will soon take to the road in Shanghai and other top Chinese cities. Its new partner, Baidu, operates the countrys largest search engine and is one of the map providers. It will help the self-driving cars to gather road information in real time.
