While I remember the names of my family who suffered and also died - TopicsExpress

While I remember the names of my family who suffered and also died in WW! and WW2 I cannot help thinking of the terrible impact this had on my family. My Grandfather Albert; Royal Marines (Regular) WW1 - spoke often of the futility of war. Died of malaria, contracted while on active service. His Brother (nameless in family oral history) returned as an Invalid from the trenches and took his own life in the early 1920s. Granduncle Tommy; The Buffs (Regular) missing on the Somme. My Father Victor; Royal Artillery. On being demobbed burned his uniform and threw his medals away. In later life flinched at thunderstorms and tears filled his eyes. Uncle Peter; (Parachute Regiment) Invalided with nervous disorder after the battle of Arnhem. Uncle Jock (Parachute Regiment) Missing at battle of Arnhem. Uncle Sid; (RTC) Invalided into mental institution after North Africa Campaign. Auntie Doris; Publicly insulted as she had a fatherless child (She was married to Jock who went missing at Arnhem) She later maried Sid. My Mother Violet; AFS. Lost a brother in an air raid, her brother in law and her first 4 years of marriage to Victor. She remained afraid of the dark for the rest of her life. Not one of my family survived either conflict free from death or serious psychological or physical injury. So I say to the thugs of Britain First or the cynically weeping Nigel Farage and all others who have attempted to hijack the act of remembrance - You Are Not Worthy of the event Harry Patch (last WW! survivor) had this to say about war Its simply organised murder
