FREEZING RAIN WARNING ENDED 3:52 AM AST Wednesday 24 December 2014 Rainfall warning in effect for: Halifax Metro and Halifax County West Rain, heavy at times is expected. A low pressure system will affect the Maritimes today with isolated showers giving way to rain this afternoon or evening and continuing on Christmas Day. Initially rain will be light to moderate but will become heavy at times on Christmas Day before ending in the evening or after midnight. Rainfall amounts of 25 to 35 millimeters are expected across most areas of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and the Magdalen Islands except along parts of the Atlantic coast of mainland Nova Scotia where up to 50 millimeters are forecast. Additionally, higher than normal water levels and rough pounding surf can be expected on Thursday during high tides along parts of the Atlantic coast of Nova Scotia and south-facing coastlines of the gulf of St. Lawrence. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Rainfall Warnings are issued when significant rainfall is expected.
