While Yasiel Puig will probably get the Rookie of the Year Award - TopicsExpress

While Yasiel Puig will probably get the Rookie of the Year Award for the National League, the Pirates Gerrit Cole might actually be a better player and prospect. Puig only batted .214, down the stretch, in September, as pitchers found his weak spots. Cole pitched brilliantly in September, giving up no home runs, striking out 39 in 31 innings, winning the Rookie Player of the Month and clinching the all-important home advantage in the Wild Card playoff game, against the dangerous Reds. Puig batted only .273 after the All Star break, and Cole averaged 9 strikeouts per nine innings, had an ERA of 2.85, had a WHIP of only 1.10, during that same time. In the playoffs, Cole mowed down the Cardinals, who were the best hitting team in the Major Leagues, this year. Cole has the talent to be the best starting pitcher in the Majors. The next Verlander?!? He was still throwing nasty 98 MPH fastballs in his last inning, yesterday!
