While bulldozers are grinding away behind the Air Force Museum on the fourth hangar project, this morning I found a crane and crew out front at the Starfighter-on-a-stick, preparing yet again to remove it for examination. As I posted over two weeks ago, their first attempt was cut short by a crane malfunction. Today they had success despite being held up by some stubborn bolts. By lunchtime the old bird was ground-bound (sans gear, at that) for the first time in 15 years. Im told this F-104 wasnt in all that great of shape when first stuck out there. The truck with the cradle was standing by to haul it off. Once the restoration guys give me the scoop, Ill post about its future use. No, I did not filch any pieces off of it while taking pics...
