While doing my eight daily USA Today puzzles this evening, Ive been watching CNNs new original series, The Sixties, which is excellent. Tonights installment is entitled, A Long March to Freedom. We sometimes forget what we experienced in the 60s during the Civil Rights Movement. The horrors that happened and were replayed every evening on the news. The firehoses, dogs, clubs, beatings, bombings, murders, sit-ins, marches, freedom riders, police, and troops. Kennedy, Johnson, King, Evers, Wallace, and the KKK. Desegration, voter registration, and legislation. And its profound impact on we teen Baby Boomers, which forever changed our lives and this country and the world. These are assurdedly trying times. But let us not forget how far weve come. And how much farther we must yet go. Courage, America. Prayer. And action.
