While having an intense facebook debate yesterday with a White gentlemen regarding my comments about the covert race war that is being perpetrated against African-Americans an interesting question was raised before our debate degenerated into me being called a racist for not abandoning race as a major factor in the overreach and non-accountability of law enforcement for the open murders of Black people suspected of a crime. That question which is really a statement disguised as a question, but it is nonetheless interesting is: You would have no problem with a police state if only its victims werent black? Overlooking his attempt to use a straw man argument to divert our debate- I think that this statement is very revealing in the sense that even if I did not have a problem with a police state- if the victims were White then I think we would witness all manner of protest by ordinary citizens, celebrities, the rich, the poor, foreign governments, and corporations against such horrific breaches of civil rights if Whites were being picked off every 28 hours for being suspected of petty crimes like: shoplifting at a gas station, walking in the middle of the street, or selling loose cigarettes. I think that if the victims were White we would witness Congress setting aside partisanship to push through the fastest and most air tight legislation to hold law enforcement accountable for its use of lethal force where other options are clearly available, mandatory body cameras, the dismantling of the grand jury system and we would see a Black president sign that bill into law before the ink could dry on its freshly printed pages. This sense of outrage about the murders of innocent young Whites engaging in teenage mischief would bring this country to its knees and force sweeping legal changes that would benefit all Americans because nobody would want their liberties and civil rights trampled upon in a police state. But I wonder why the same thing isnt true for those of us who are living in a police state and the victims of these open murders are Black? If only the victims werent Black...
