While hosting a radio show today on WCBM 680 I had a caller to the show who wanted to comment on Republican US Senator Tim Scott. Senator Scott, who happens to be black, was recently referred to as a ventriloquist dummy for the extreme right wing by the head of the North Carolina chapter of the NAACP and there has been understandable public backlash. The caller, who heard my segment on the topic but could not recall Senator Scotts name, immediately lashed out and called him an Uncle Tom. When pressed, the caller knew very little about the Senator, his life, or his political ideology but was sure that the Senator was his enemy. Friends, Im not a philosopher or a preacher and I am well aware of the legions of problems the GOP has had with many in the minority community. Some of these problems have been self-inflicted and some are the product of media fables. But there is no path forward for the country if a person from the opposing political party is your default enemy, despite the fact that you know nothing about him or her and strictly based on the melanin component of their skin. There are a lot of really good people who really give a damn about the problems disparately impacting the minority community who are being dismissed without ever being heard for no credible reason and its tough to watch. These words may make no discernible difference but that will not stop me and many others from continuing on in our mission to break down these artificial walls between us. Thanks for the time, Dan
