While listening to the History of Rome podcast I realized - TopicsExpress

While listening to the History of Rome podcast I realized something. I am a very big history buff. That is not the real realization as this is something I have known since I was a child. What I did realize is that my fascination with history has made me far too concerned with the what ifs of history and consequently has made me concerned with the what ifs of my life. I focus and obsess over what I could/should have done and what if I had done this differently. I think this is the primary reason for the rut I have been in as of late. I am not entirely sure how to change my thought process to something that is more forward thinking without over analyzing the potential consequences of a particular action. This is especially difficult to do because it is something I have done my entire life. It was just an interesting epiphany that made me just stop what it was I was doing (painting little evil elves) and sit there for a while really trying to absorb what I had just learned about myself. Do any of you history buffs out there deal with a similar problem? If so, how do you deal with it and make good forward progress in your life? I realize that everyone asks themselves what if at several points in their lives but I find that I do it almost constantly.
