While living in Salt Lake City, Utah from 1996-2000, I was fortunate enough to become friends with an Avalanche Safety Instructor, took the course, then went along on further course instructions and helped out as an assistant. There is a reason for ropes and boundary lines at Ski Resorts, yup, I have been out of bounds, yup, I have dropped under the ropes, Yup, I have hiked the back country of the Wasatch Mountains, Yup, I have been in a few sluff slides, Yup, I have seen the bomb squad shoot charges from the road of Little Cottonwood and Big Cottonwood Canyon, and yup, sadly, I know several people who have lost family and friends to Avalanches over the years across the United States. No line, no matter how tempting is worth your life or the lives of others, there was even a Helicopter in Utah, that was sent out to rescue a stranded back country snowboarder in Utah and in the process of the rescue, the Helicopter Crashed killing everyone on board. The reason I am sharing this with everyone, is just because you have an Avalanche Transceiver, it does not prepare you for inbounds or out of territory back country, take a class, get the proper equipment and training. Probe Poles, Shovel, Radios, all a must, cell phones do not work in the back country. Contact your local mountain and even some community collages offer snow exploration courses. Be safe, have fun, but always have a back up plan, always practice using your Transceivers, with Grid Searches, always let friends and family know where your headed and when you should be back, that alone has saved countless lives around the world.... youtu.be/MQF-hmooGeo Old News Report and unfortunately wont be the last
