While my husband fished, I hung out with my local friend Cheryl. We went in search of bears, even though they havent been seen very often this summer. We have a few spots that we like to check out - off the beaten path - and since I had my husbands truck (with 4WD), I was all for doing some off-road exploring. We almost didnt drive out here, but as I passed the turn off, I decided to make a U-turn and check it out. Within minutes, we saw these three fishing! They have the grizzly hump on their back, but one of them is so very dark - almost black - that s/he almost looks like a black bear. (Bear experts can chime in here, as I always welcome input.) I did a little research and there are grizzlies that are very dark, so Im going to stick with my first assessment that this is a group of young (teenage) grizzly bears. Siblings perhaps? Steve and I are going back to the same area tomorrow, with the hope of seeing them again. These photos were cropped tightly from the original, as the bears were quite some distance away and photographed with a zoom lens (400mm). So happy to have finally seen bears! I do hope we get to enjoy them fishing again tomorrow.
