While on Netflix last night, I found that they had Irwin Allens Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, the motion picture for streaming. Having watched the series but not the movie,I had to watch it. It was done with his usual scientific accuracy. In the movie, Earth is threatened when meteors set the Van Allen Belt on fire. The Seaview then sails to the Marianas to launch a nuclear missile to send the belt into outer space. Along the way, the sub encounters in quick succession: A giant rubber squid(which reminded me of a scene in Ed Wood); a mine field; another sub that tries to stop it; a giant octopus. And it all starts with a song from Frankie Avalon (sans Annette).
