While on a foreign mission to my host country, outside Uganda, a senior government official amused us with a story of how they used to pass time in the evenings, after work, at Rock Gardens in Speke Hotel, to wait for the traffic congestion in Kampala city to ease. One day they entered the Rock Gardens, as sual, but found all the tables fully occupied except one, with a single lady. They requested to join her. She obliged. About one and half hours later, these senior citizens noticed that the lady was still on her first bottle, so they decided to offer her one when ordering their third round. hencefrth, they involved her in their conversations. When it was time to leave, these senior buddies introduced themselves tothe lady and thanked her for her company. The conversation thus went as follows: Gentlemen: I am so and so from Foreign Affairs, my colleague here is called ... from Ministry of Finance, and the other is ... from Local Government. Lady: Thank you. For me, I am called .... I work in KCC (Kampala City Council). The Gentlemen curiosly inquired, which Department in KCC, madam? (because the Bosses in KCC were their peers and University cohorts). Lady: For me I work in the Demolition Department. Gentlemen: Eh, that sounds unfamiliar to us. What are the responsibiities of that Department? Lady: Our duty is to demolish illegal erections on the city streets. The Gentle understood her occupation, bade her good night and went away laughing! We also laughed at the end of the senior citizens story!
