While on a retreat with our officers this weekend, a girl that played a lead character (and stole the show) in our production of Midsummer early this semester mentioned that her mom never came to see her, but that her mom did have time to go see her cousins football game. Your daughter is an officer, so shes obviously interested and committed to this organization; she spends six weeks rehearsing the show, which you have to come pick her up from every day, and you dont have a little time to watch her in a school play? It ran seven times, mom. And this isnt the first time Ive seen this happen with our students. Its a common problem. Making sure the parents are each individually invited, and finding ways to motivate their attendance is going to become one of my missions. These kids put their sweat and hearts into this work, the parents need to witness and support it -- and I guess well have to help them to do so.
