While picking up my son from speed camp at KHS the other day we we discussed the evolution of the KHS parking lot . Current enrollment at KHS is 2,700. My graduating class (88) was just shy of 800, so I estimate there were approximately the same amount of kids enrolled. The parking lot did not have assigned spots it was a dog eat dog world. You had to get to school early to get a spot or your could be circling for hours to park, and then would end up Tardy. We had TWO exits from the parking lot on either side. Now they filter all the traffic to the far side near the track. When I was a student you could get a parking permit once you had your license. Now spots are signed by number and issued by lottery with a priority ranking. NO Sophomores are given a spot. My question is this......what happened to all the spots? From what I can see the school expansion has not changed the footprint of the parking lot since the 80s. We were never allowed to park in the visitors section or in the teacher lot. While it must be nice to have an assigned spot, If you get a bad one, you are stuck with that forever! I saw this poor boy who has the spot next to the traffic flow stuck and sat in his car. I am guessing he gets most of his homework done before he leaves the lot! If anyone knows the explanation for this phenomenon please share!
