While the equinox (named for equal day and night lengths) is still - TopicsExpress

While the equinox (named for equal day and night lengths) is still a few days away, we measure sunrise and sunset as the moments the upper limb of the sun touches the horizon. In addition, refraction of sunlight through the atmosphere makes the sun appear a little higher in the sky than it would be if we didnt have an atmosphere. Today here in North Penacook the sun rose at 6:55 AM and will set at 6:55 PM, call it the observed equinox, vs. the actual equinox on Mar 20th at 3:16 PM. Dont go looking for crocuses. wermenh/sun.html (The dates for the seasons are wrong by several hours.)
