I once got half a bike for Christmas, it was a particularly expensive, early bmx bike, i wanted it for months, looking at it at the mall, the price exceeded the gift budget so I cut a deal and I paid for half out of my savings. Bikes didnt come with test rides, this was to prove a disaster.....It was a ridiculous contraption really, bmx was a brand new sport and many, myself included, thought the bikes would need shocks to survive all the jumps and stuff. This bike had front and rear shocks and was built like a tank, unfortunately, it weighed as much as a tank too. To add to that, because it had the all important shocks, when you pushed on the pedals, instead of going forward, the bike bounced up and down like a two wheeled pogo stick. And jumps? Well the bike was so heavy, that the shocks would bottom out and get stuck, then a few feet later, the shocks would spring back up, launching my two wheeled Sherman tank straight up. This is not a race winning formula for success. I only road this disastrous contraption for a few months before I stripped it of its few useful parts and went to a more conventional bike. This was the year I learned that having is not so pleasing as wanting, how to deal with disappointment, and when to cut your losses. Im sure glad I had that piece of crap bike, thanks Dad, and Barbara.
